John was born in 1769 in Berkeley Cnty, VA, the son of MATTHIAS GOSSETT Sr. and MARY LITTLER.

He died before 1824 in New Market, Highland, OH.

His wife was Honour Hull, who he married on 08 APR 1788 in Berkeley Cnty, VA. Their eleven known children were Amariah (1788-1885), John "Jack" (1790-1853), Moses (1792-1831), Rachel (1794-?), Lindsey (1796-1853), Abijah W. (1798-1849), Prescott (1800-?), Lavinah (1802-1823), Milton (1808-1889), Miles "Wilson" (1808-1889) and Presley "Preston" (1814-?).

John Gossett lived in Berkeley Cnty, VA; Ohio; Burbon Cnty, KY. Eventually settled in Ohio. Appeared on Berkeley Cnty, VA Tithables Lists in years 1788, 1798, 1799, 1800, 1801. Purchased lot in Paris, Bourbon, KY in 1795 and sold in 1796. On Bourbon Cnty, KY tax list in 1792 - 1796, with not list available in 1794.
